Last week WikiTree and the study were introduced on this blog. Today profiles will be added to the Fairmont Cemetery, which is part of the study. Tune in at 2pm MST this process is shown. Ask questions in the live chat, I'll be happy to help!
For this cemetery a cross-reference database was created from the book of burials written up by Harold Honeyfield and the information available from the New Mexico Tombstone Project. A survey of the cemetery was completed in November 2020 with photos taken of each headstone. About 45% of those photos have been research and had ancestor profiles created on WikiTree. FindAGrave currently lists the total of memorials at 6,515.
Recommended tools to consider when using WikiTree:
A One Place Study is the study of the genealogy and history of a specific place.
Raton, New Mexico is a small town near the border with Colorado and is where I’ve lived for the last seven years.
In addition to the main study page for Raton, there are pages for each of the three cemeteries (Mount Calvary, Fairmont, and Fairview), and two house histories.
Currently, there are over 3.8k profiles for those born, married, lived, and died here. Once you have a profile on WikiTree and have connected to the one big global tree, you can check your connections to these profiles.
